Event Details
1. Project Background
Communities in Nasir County have experienced prolonged humanitarian challenges resulting from conflict, displacement, and economic instability. Many households have lost their sources of livelihood, making it difficult to meet their basic needs such as food, shelter, and healthcare.
To address these urgent needs while also strengthening community harmony, PRDA—with funding support from Norwegian Church Aid—implemented a Cash Voucher Assistance (CVA) and Advocacy and Social Cohesion Project. The project aimed to provide immediate financial relief to vulnerable households while simultaneously promoting peaceful coexistence and dialogue among communities affected by conflict.
2. Project Objectives
The main objectives of the project were:
- Provide financial support to vulnerable households through cash voucher assistance to enable them to meet their immediate basic needs.
- Promote social cohesion and peaceful coexistence through community advocacy and peace dialogue meetings.
- Strengthen community resilience by empowering households to make independent decisions regarding their most urgent needs.
- Encourage community participation in peacebuilding efforts within Nasir County.
3. Target Beneficiaries
The project targeted 1,665 households, equivalent to approximately 8,500 individuals across several Payams in Nasir County.
Priority was given to the most vulnerable members of the community, including:
- Conflict-affected families
- Elderly individuals without adequate support
- Orphans and vulnerable children
- Female-headed households
- Persons living with disabilities
These groups were selected to ensure that assistance reached those most in need within the affected communities.
4. Geographic Coverage
The project was implemented across seven Payams in Nasir County, including:
- Kierwan
- Koat
- Nasir Town
- Kierkuon
- Mading
- Dinkar
- Gairhreng
These areas were selected based on vulnerability assessments and the level of humanitarian need within the county.
5. Conclusion
The Cash Voucher Assistance (CVA) and Advocacy and Social Cohesion Project demonstrated the importance of combining livelihood support with peacebuilding initiatives in fragile and conflict-affected areas.
Through the support of Norwegian Church Aid, PRDA successfully provided life-saving assistance to vulnerable households while fostering dialogue and cooperation among communities in Nasir County. Continued support for similar initiatives will be essential in strengthening resilience, reducing vulnerability, and sustaining peace in the region.
