Flood Emergency Response: Teachers’ Training and Cash Voucher Assistance
The Presbyterian Relief and Development Agency (PRDA), with support from ACT Alliance, implemented a flood emergency response intervention to address urgent humanitarian and education needs among vulnerable communities in Ayod County, Jonglei State, and Maiwut County, Upper Nile State, South Sudan.
The project focused on strengthening primary school management and teaching capacity while providing cash voucher assistance to vulnerable households affected by conflict, displacement, and flooding.
Key Activities
1. Teachers’ and PTA Training in Ayod
PRDA conducted training for 40 primary school teachers from 12 schools in Ayod County. The training covered general school management, coaching and learning modalities, financial and administrative management, time and resource management, school leadership, and task decentralization. Engagement with local authorities, the county education director, teachers, and Parent-Teacher Associations (PTAs) supported coordination and implementation.
2. Cash Voucher Assistance in Ayod
The project carried out beneficiary identification, registration, verification, and cash voucher distribution to support vulnerable children and households affected by the crisis. The situation report records 236 individual beneficiaries and 249 households reached through the Ayod cash voucher activity.
3. Cash Voucher Assistance in Maiwut
In Maiwut County, PRDA recruited and trained five community volunteers—two female and three male—to support implementation. The team conducted beneficiary targeting, registration, verification, and distribution of assistance to selected beneficiaries. The report records 1,500 beneficiaries reached through the Maiwut cash voucher activity.
Project Impact
The intervention contributed to strengthening teachers’ professional capacity, improving school management practices, supporting vulnerable households, and promoting more transparent and accountable humanitarian assistance. It also highlighted the importance of accurate beneficiary verification, community participation, safe distribution procedures, and sustained support for education in crisis-affected areas.
