School Rehabilitation & Classroom Equipping — Ayod County

Following severe flooding in Ayod County, Jonglei State, PRDA South Sudan, with support from ACT Alliance, implemented an emergency education response to restore learning opportunities for children whose education had been disrupted by displacement and the loss of essential school supplies. Many families were forced to flee their homes as floodwaters damaged schools, destroyed educational materials, and limited access to safe learning environments. As part of the intervention, PRDA distributed school bags, exercise books, pens, pencils, and other essential learning materials to vulnerable school-aged children, enabling them to resume their education with dignity and confidence.

The distribution targeted children from the most affected communities, prioritizing those who had lost their learning materials during the floods and those at risk of dropping out of school. The activity was coordinated with local education authorities, school management committees, community leaders, and parents to ensure a transparent and equitable beneficiary selection process. Distribution events were organized at designated schools and community locations, where children received complete learning kits designed to support their immediate educational needs.

Beyond the provision of school supplies, the intervention reinforced the importance of maintaining access to education during emergencies. By equipping children with the materials required to participate in classroom activities, the project encouraged regular school attendance, reduced barriers to learning, and provided a sense of normalcy for children recovering from the impacts of the flood. The initiative also contributed to improving children's psychosocial well-being by helping them reconnect with their peers and teachers in a structured learning environment.

The emergency education response formed part of PRDA South Sudan's broader humanitarian assistance programme in Ayod County, which seeks to protect vulnerable populations affected by recurrent flooding and climate-related disasters. Through its partnership with ACT Alliance, PRDA continues to promote inclusive, safe, and quality education in emergency settings while strengthening community resilience and supporting children's right to education, even in times of crisis. The successful implementation of this activity demonstrated the value of coordinated humanitarian action in ensuring that disaster-affected children can continue learning and build hope for a more resilient future.
